Take This Waltz

Last evening, I was lucky enough to see Take This Waltz, the sophomore film by director Sarah Polley. This film comes out in June and was being presented as a part of the TIFF Top Ten. It stars Michelle Williams as Margot, who is married to Lou (Seth Rogen). Margot meets Daniel (Luke Kirby) and the mutual attraction between them is hard to deny. Suddenly, Margot is conflicted and unable to deny her feelings for Daniel. See this film when it comes out. It is powerful and beautiful, making Toronto look like the most romantic place in the world.

American Idiot!

This evening I was lucky enough to see Green Day's American Idiot, a rock musical based on Green Day's album American Idiot. The show was on Broadway and was nominated at the Tony's for Best Musical! This production in Toronto is the premiere of the National Tour. The music is great, the cast is phenomenal and the visuals are incredible. If you have nothing to do this weekend and money to spare GO!

Oscars 2012: Best Picture

Hi All,
It has been a while since my last post but I promise to try writing more regularly.
This is my first post in a series of Oscar predictions
The Oscar nomination list is coming out in 11 days, January 24, and there are many large shoe-ins for nominations.
Let's have at:

Best Picture

The front runner this year is The Artist, the French silent film comedy that is an homage to 1930s Hollywood. I have seen it and I think it is absolutely wonderful. It is funny at times, sad at times and entertaining all throughout. If you have not seen this yet, RUN! The lead actors Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo are both largely suspected to get Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominations respectively, as well as the director Michel Hazanavicius for Best Director.
Other wonderful films include The Descendants, which stars George Clooney in a possible Oscar winning role as a father who must struggle with his wife in a coma and taking care of his two daughters. Shailene Woodley stars as one of his daughters and she is getting Oscar buzz as well. Director Alexander Payne is wonderful in capturing such a wonderful story.
The Help is also great, with Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer giving performances that will likely get Oscar nominations and possibly wins for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively. Hugo, directed by Martin Scorcese is a film that is family-friendly and has a beautiful story that pays homage to French cinema of the early 1900s, using 3D technology to create incredible visuals. This film is definitely in my top 5 films of the year. Midnight in Paris is also wonderful and is developing buzz. Woody Allen made a wonderfully creative story and the film is shot beautifully. Other films that could be nominated include War Horse, The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, Bridesmaids, The Ides of March and Drive. I recommend seeing as many of these as you can, so you are prepared for the Oscars.

Thanks for reading.
